This work describes the development of an Online Fault Diagnosis System for construction vehicles. In this design project the vehicle is broken down into different functional systems, such as the power system, mechanical system, hydraulic system, steering system, and the braking system. The technique of Potential Failure Mode and Effects Analysis(PFMEA)is considered as a standard to analyze faults, potential effects, potential causes and solutions. The information then obtained is designed as a database table, which could be handled by any database system like Microsoft Access,Microsoft SQL server or Oracle. This formatted information is then made available to the operator and maintenance team via a web client interface, which may be any web browser such as Internet Explorer,Chrome,Firefox etc.The online system is developed on the technology of Active Server Pages, which provides the functionality of active web content. The online system could be accessed anytime from any part of the world with a web browser and the connection to the Internet. The provision is made such that user authenticity is obtained before allowing the user to access the data. The Fault Diagnosis System thus provides a handy trouble-shooting tool that cuts down the time involved in diagnosing failures found in complex systems such as mine dragline machines and front-end loaders, which may otherwise need experts from various disciplines. The system is believed to be a solution to the Construction Vehicle(CV)downtime problems.
