At present,as our country enters a stage of rapid development,a large number of traditional residential communities,historical heritage,and traditional blocks that contain rich collective memories or urban memories have been severely damaged.But fortunately,people in all walks of life are constantly strengthening their awareness of traditional protection.In recent years,the protection of history with the theme of "memory" has become a hotspot in academic discussions.However,most of them have focused on the protection of historical landscape buildings and historical cities under the theoretical guidance of place memory and city memory.The research on the protection and renewal of the traditional residential community of "collective memory" is rarely discussed.Most of the discussion on "memory" also focuses on the "memory cognitive level",and from "memory screening to memory extraction to memory retrospection" "The lack of research on this system has led to the inability to retain valuable memories and propose more targeted strategies.Therefore,the paper selects the traditional residential community of Guangzhou Xiguan as the research object,through literature analysis,interdisciplinary research,field research and other methods to construct the selection principle and selection content of collective memory,in order to analyze the specific elements of collective memory content of the traditional residential community of Guangzhou Xiguan Conduct extraction and analysis,and then propose corresponding guidelines and strategies.With a view to standing on the timeline of "past-present-future",it will provide a certain reference and reference value for similar research in the future.The article research is mainly divided into the following parts:The first part: starting from the multidisciplinary relevant theory of collective memory,and applying the relevant memory research results under the psychology category system and the sociology category system to the urban architectural landscape system research,so as to clarify the specific connotation,three components and five characteristics,thus ensuring that the concept of collective memory is practical practicality and research significance,and also as an important theoretical support in the process of memory construction.The second part: Macroscopically,through the analysis of the relationship between collective memory and traditional residential community space,a selection system for collective memory is constructed,including five selection principles summarized in accordance with relevant legal documents: the principle of integrity and the principle of authenticity,The principle of collectiveness,the principle of continuity and the principle of regionality;the spatial elements,cultural elements,behavioral elements and perceptions based on the three components of the research object "traditional residential community" and the perceptual to provide the practical basis for the collective memory in the specific practice of the protection and renewal of the traditional residential community in Xiguan,and further proves that the research psychological level concept,but more important is a concept of social construction.This article applies the concept of collective memory to the protection and renewal of traditional residential
