Protection And Renewal Design Of Guangzhou Xiguan Arcade Historic District From The Perspective Of Urban Memory

Under the wave of urbanization,China’s urban construction is changing from "incremental construction" to "stock renewal" as the main planning method,and the historic district,as an important area for stock planning,is facing a great opportunity but also being tested and attracting people’s attention as never before.The historic district,as an important area for stock planning,is facing a major opportunity,but also an unprecedented test and concern.As the basic unit of urban life,the historic district of the Riding House contains the most original memories of urban life,and plays an important role in highlighting local characteristics and manifesting regional culture and urban charm.With the advancement of urbanization,the phenomenon of homogenization has emerged in the protection and renewal of the historic district of the Riding Tower,neglecting the protection of regional culture and urban memory,thus causing the blurring of regional characteristics,loss of cultural spirit,"urban amnesia" and other problems.In order to better protect the historic district of the Riding House,enhance the impression of the city and perpetuate its urban memory,the thesis analyzes the existing problems of the historic district of the Riding House from the perspective of urban memory,and discusses the principles of the conservation and renewal design of the historic district of the Riding House,as well as the conservation and renewal design methods of the historic district of the Riding House to perpetuate urban memory,and finally the design practice of the historic district of the Xiguan Riding House.The Xiguan Riding House Historic District is located within the historical city of Guangzhou,and is rich in material resources and historical and cultural heritage.With the development of the city,its current situation can no longer meet the development of the city and the needs of diverse groups in the neighborhood,presenting the problem of insufficient neighborhood vitality.Based on the perspective of urban memory,this paper adopts the case study method to conduct a comparative study of the typical cases of conservation and renewal of the historic districts of the Riding Tower in Guangzhou,Guangxi and Hainan,and draws out the main points and experiences that can be learned from them.Then,the principles and methods of the conservation and renewal design of the historic district of the Riding House are proposed for the existing problems of the district.Then,based on a profound analysis of the current situation of the Xiguan Riding House Historic District and the urban memory elements of the Xiguan Riding House Historic District,the paper explores specific measures for the conservation and renewal design of the Xiguan Riding House Historic District by combining the above research with design practice.The thesis research is divided into six main parts: the first part is the introduction.The first part is the introduction,which clarifies the background,purpose and significance of the research according to the theme of the thesis,then comprehensively analyzes the current situation of domestic and foreign research,and outlines the main research contents,research methods and research innovation points of the thesis.In the second part,the relevant concepts are clarified and the relationship between them is explained.The third part is a comparative study of typical cases of conservation and regeneration of the historic district of the Riding House,analyzing the similarities and differences of their conservation and regeneration approaches and the expression of urban memory,and summarizing the existing problems of the historic district of the Riding House in order to develop design ideas and gain inspiration.In the fourth part,the principles of conservation and renewal design for the historic district of the Riding House are proposed,and the methods of conservation and renewal design for the historic district of the Riding House are explored.The fifth part is to summarize and classify the urban memory elements and existing problems of the Xiguan Riding House Historic District,and to carry out the conservation and renewal design practice of the Xiguan Riding House Historic District from the perspective of urban memory proposed in the previous paper as a guide to reproduce the urban memory of the district.Finally,the sixth part is the conclusion and outlook,which summarizes the main conclusions and shortcomings of the thesis and makes an outlook on the research of the topic.
