With more and more new car project launched in vehicle enterprise, powertrain(engine and transmission)as the high technical part, the powertrain production line itself is a highly integrated technology products. In powertrain production line manufacturing engineering project, mechanical safety design system is the one of important parts,it is related to the overall safety of the factory in the future. This paper compares the principle and process of risk assessment, risk control strategy and method of project risk management, combine with the characteristics of the powertrain production line project, and determine the localization strategy of machinery safety design management. In terms of safety design principles, through the research on the machine of the whole life cycle and project characteristics, proposed attention based on the powertrain production line project business objectives, risk assessment, risk and cost based on the impact of technology and experience based on the three principles of control. In the safety design process, combined with the power assembly production line project development process, put forward the node control process. In the safety risk assessment, design evaluation, combined with the risk management theory and risk assessment process, the commonly used tools and technologies and powertrain production line project of mechanical safety design characteristics, summed up the localization strategy for project risk identification.Risk control in the safety design, the introduction of the "two stage" of the risk control theory, according to the characteristics of the powertrain to refine the measures can be used at each stage, and combined with examples to illustrate.
