Research On The Development And Characteristics Of Modern Garden In Nantong

In modern times,Nantong was called "the first city in modern China" by academician Wu Liangyong.The modern garden of Nantong has an important position in the history of Chinese modern garden development.This paper took the modern garden of Nantong as the research object,aiming at sorting out the historical stage and the characteristics for the development of modern garden in Nantong,deepening the connotation of Nantong garden so as to form a useful complement for the research of the history of Chinese modern garden and Nantong modern history.The research is based on archival data and related literature,mainly adopting the methods of literature research,theory analysis and field survey.The research took Nantong modern municipal garden as the main body,the occurrence and development as the main line and the analysis for the characteristics of landscape architecture as the emphasis to restore historical pictures of the modern garden development in Nantong so as to analyze its influence and significance on the modernization process of Nantong Garden.The main research conclusions are:(1)The generation of modern garden in Nantong is the demand for the development of modern industrial cities in Nantong and it is influenced by the many factors,such as social factors,cultural conflict and integration,the guide of leading figure,etc.;(2)The development has gone through the three stages of beginning,rapid development,sluggish.In the process of development,there is not only the inheritance and development of traditional garden but also the quotation and reference for the garden style,philosophy and modern technology from the advanced western countries with the characteristic of “fusion of Chinese and Western” presented;(3)The key figures of Zhang Jian and the local architects has made exploration,practice and integration for the construction culture from China and western countries to make the development of Nantong modern garden presented with the localization evolution characteristic of “from bottom to top”.(4)Just as the modernization of the whole city,the profound traditional culture connotation and scientific & democratic thought of Zhang Jian also presented in the construction of garden construction,integrating the garden culture of China and the west at the practical level so as to make Nantong modern garden have the unique artistic characteristics that are different from colonized concession cities.(5)The layout of modern urban green land in Nantong and the distribution pattern of public gardens have a profound influence in the aspects of modern urban spatial structure and social public consciousness in modern Nantong with the influence up to now.The main innovation and significance of this paper lies in: To make the system research for the modern garden in Nantong by paying attention to its background and conditions,dissecting the motivation and development of the modernization evolution,analyzing the main garden function,artistic characteristics and influence and discussing the influence and significance towards city.The study has a supplementary significance for the study of Nantong modern city and Chinese modern garden.The inadequacies of the study mainly lies in:(1)there are still some fields need to be studied,such as private residential gardens,schools,affiliated garden of hospitals and other institutions.The planned and continuous research and analysis should be carried out due to the data scarcity;(2)It failed to made an intensive study for the development of modern gardens in other cities,lacking of horizontal comparative study,which are needed to be strengthened in the further study.
