Design And Culture Of The Garden Gathering Spring In The Qingyi Garden

The Garden Gathering Spring is a traditional literati garden with strong religious atmosphere which contains The Qingke Courtyard and Weixian Courtyard.The initial construction of the Sunmer Palace(originally named Qingyi Garden) in 1752,and it was ransacked by French and British troops in 1860.As a result of the political,economic and other reasons it failed to be rebuilt and become the ancient ruins.It is located in the west of imperial path on the northern side of the Longevity Hill in the Summer Palace. The Emperor Qianlong loved this Garden so much that he went to The Garden Gathering Spring as soon as he went to the northern side of the Longevity Hill.He wrote 98 poems to praise this Garden. These poems have unparalleled value to study this garden. In terms of garden art, the buildings of this gargen are built on the mountainside,with deep and quiet environment.It is a masterpiece of mountain garden with high artistic value.In the aspect of design method, It imitated in Yongji Temple,golden mountain and Jiao mountain with unique mothod. It clarifies the landscape idea of the Emperor Qianlong and the design method of Royal Gardens in the Qing Dynasty. In the garden of culture, a variety of garden activities had been carried out in the Garden Gathering Spring, including the deep cultural connotation. And in aspects of Architectural pattern, single building, plant category and naming scenic spots, it reflects multiculturalism contained three kinds of culture: Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism.Through the combination of literatue research and investigation,this paper takes a study of The Garden Gathering Spring.Based on the space information of cultural heritage and the contents of historical documents, Yangshi Lei Archives,this paper analyses the value and the design method,and finishes the preliminary restoration of this garden. Reserch on the prototype of imitating and restore the Plane pattern of the prototype.With the comparative analysis, the method of imitating can be summarized. It turned out that the method of design not only imitates in the form of one building named Guanyin pavilion but also imitates and recreates the whole Yongji Temple in the respects of plane layout, environment, artistic conception and so on.In the basis of the poems of the Emperor Qianlong,Display volume and the records related on this garden, we can trace the activitis in this garden,and root out the culture driving force hidden in these activitis,and deeply analyse the multicultural in the Garden Gathering Spring. So the research on the Garden Gathering Spring is of great importance to promoting on the study of garden art,design method of the Emperor Qianlong and the cognition of the whole value of the Summer Palace.
