A Study On Palace-Garden Space Layout In Shang-Lin Yuan Of Han Dynasty

The Shang-Lin Yuan is a masterpiece of Chinese classical garden history. Since first built by Qin Zhaowang in the warring states period, the Shang-Lin Yuan had been standed for 200 years and across five counties in today’s canton. The Shang-Lin Yuan was extended and restored by emperor Wu of Han based on the Qin-Dynasty-Shang-LinYuan, in which the ’palace in garden’,’palace in palace’ mode was used.Its gardening artistry is considerable. Especially the mode’ three mountains in one lake’ becames the classical model of the following royal garden.This paper argues that in the Han Dynasty, the scope of the Shang-Lin Yuan was east arrived at Zhi Yang palace,south to Yan Shou palace in Xian Yang Ding Hu, ends at Chang Yang palace and Wu Zha palace,and the north border stretches from the Huang Shan palace along Wei river towards the east, which covers an area for almost 2000 square kilometers. Our research is to study the spatial of the palace and garden within this range.The research analysis the palace space thourgh two sections,which is In-Palace and Out-Palace. JianZhang palace,which follows the characters’ hall in front while yard behind’, foil the majority view of subject construction and have many tall buildings. It also reflects the typical ideology, which are’ astrologers and see feng shui’,’respect the holy things’in Qin dynasty and Han dynasty. The palace area and garden is separate, and compound roads, cabinet roads and tunnels are used. Key point of this part is to study the rule of site selection and the relationship between each buildings. The rules on the distribution of the palace in the Shang-Lin Yuan is not as strict as the construction in capital city.Natural condition is the main factors. Besides this,cultural factors, utility function are also affect the distribution of the palace.The Shang-Lin Yuan has important impact in traditional Chinese garden history.The architecturalform and space layout was inherited and developed afterwards,which is the most important position of Chinese traditional culture.
