Research On Localization Design Of Modern Catholic Church Buildings In Xiamen Diocese Of Fujian

Fujian has a long history of Catholic communication.Since the Yuan Dynasty,there had been church construction activities.As an exotic building,the Catholic Church is a product of the blending integration of Chinese and Western cultures.A large number of Catholic church buildings were built in modern Fujian,which has made it one of the important modern architectural types in Fujian.This paper takes the Catholic church buildings built in the four districts of Xiamen,Zhangzhou,Quanzhou and Longyan under the jurisdiction of the Xiamen Diocese of Fujian,as the research objects.Via collecting organizing historical data,on-site survey,mapping,and analyzing the commonality and difference of the localized design of modern Catholic church buildings under the influence of different regional cultural backgrounds,this research provides a reference for the protection of the existing church heritage and the design of new churches.The dissertation consists of four parts.The first part is statement of the research.The second part is to develop the histroric context of the development of the Catholic Church in various dynasties in Fujian and the construction of the modern Catholic Church in Xiamen.The third part is the main part of the article,which focuses on the localization characteristics of the modern Catholic church in the Catholic Diocese of Xiamen.On the one hand,by comparing the evolution of the styles of the Western and Xiamen parish churches,this paper analyzes and summarizes the localization characteristics of church buildings in various stages of the Xiamen diocese.On the other hand,according to the collection of historical image data and the existing building surveying and mapping of 16 Catholic Churches built by the modern districts of Xiamen.This paper analyzes the layout of the building group,the plan,facade,decoration,structure,materials,construction techniques of the main building and its ancillary buildings.It ends with the summary and analysis of the localization characteristics of the Catholic Church in Xiamen.The fourth part mainly discusses the analysis of the value of Catholic church buildings and the protection of architectural heritage,as well as localization design of new buildings.This paper comprehensively analyzes the localization characteristics of modern Catholic church buildings in Xiamen diocese by means of oral histroy and typology,and shows the localized architectural value of modern Catholic church buildings in Xiamen Diocese,in order to guide the architectural heritage conservation of the contemporary church and the localization design practice of the church buildings.
