Research On The Catholic Church Of Southern Shandong In Modern Times

Lunan is located in the southern part of Shandong,which is riched in cultural and historical.It is called Qilu earth in ancient times.The oldest artificial canals-the Grand Canal and China's mother river-the Yellow River flows through Lunan,rivers pregnant with civilization.Jining,the hinterland of Lunan,is known as the hometown of Confucius and Mencius,the Capital of Canal.There,Confucian culture has a long history.In the modern times,Shandong province was a semi-feudal society.German occupied the Kiaochow Bay of Tsingtao after the occurrence of the Juye Jiao-an,claimed the Qing government to compensation,and took advantage of reparations for building churches and homes at a large scale in southern Shandong.As a consequence Lunan became the Germany's sphere of influence.With the spread of Catholicism in Lunan,the produce and development of the Catholic Church formed a certain scale,forming a network-like layout in Lunan.This paper mainly studies the Catholic Churches of Southern Shandong in Modern Times as the research object.Combining local literature studies and field investigations,the social and historical background,distribution status,history,style characteristics and form features of church buildings were more systematic research and analysis,thereby showing the integration of Chinese and Western cultures of the Catholic Church in modern times,and showing the development,evolution and research value of Southern Shandong.Meanwhile,it provides a reference for the study of modern architecture in the southern part of Shandong.Lunan Catholic Churches as a whole reflects a collision and a combination between traditional Chinese culture and Western Catholic culture characteristics.They do not reflect a purely architectural features of the Western church,but blend into traditional Chinese architectural elements.It shows the performance of the social cultural characteristics and the construction skill levels which the unique form and fusion architectural feature of Chinese and Western architecture.The church is a rare kind of information that has the unique value of cultural relics,and it is deserved attention and protection.Finally,with a case study of the Puoli Church,it put forward the corresponding repair method of protection combining with conservation status,thus providing basic research data and the reference value for the protection and renovation of the old church buildings.
