Inheritance Of Southern Fujian Architecture Based On Materials-expression

Due to the common influence of eastern and western culture,the Southern Fujian culture has been diversified ever since its birth,and its diversity is particularly prominent in the expression of architecture.This rich regionalism is manifested through its distinctive features embedded in various forms of buildings,be it the traditional ones like red brick house,stone house,Keke house,earthen building,wooden bridge,or modern colonial architecture,residential house and commercial arcade.Therefore,an analysis of regional inheritance of Southern Fujian architecture based on materials and techniques is of certain application value to the creation of regional architecture in Southern Fujian.To begin with,it can clarify the historical generation and specific connotation of the regional history of Southern Fujian architecture,and further strengthen the cultural subjectivity construction of the contemporary Southern Fujian architecture.In addition,it is able to propose the inheritance strategies through analyses of the regional characteristics of architecture material expression,thus providing reference for future regional architecture creation in Southern Fujian.The present paper is divided into three parts:Part 1:Chapter OneThis part mainly discusses research background,purpose and significance.Besides,research objects are categorized and defined,followed by the review of source theories and current research.The methodology and theoretical framework are provided as well.Part 2:Chapter Two and Chapter ThreePart Two is the analysis and summary of the regional "prototype" and "present type" with regard to Southern Fujian architecture.Chapter Two looks at in depth the generation of regional prototype of Southern Fujian architecture,and proposes four regional characteristics of traditional Southern Fujian architecture,taking into account various factors such as the natural environment,social customs,productivity,features of techniques and construction materials like brick,stone,dirt,wood,oyster shell,etc.Based on the representation of "present type" of contemporary architecture,ChapterThree uncovers the developmental processes of Southern Fujian regional architecture,followed by outstanding regional cases of application and expression of traditional and modern materials.As a result of this,four trends of contemporary material expression are summed up to picture Southern Fujian architecture.Part 3:Chapter Four and Chapter FiveChapter Four&Five discuss and summerize the regional inheritance strategies of Southern Fujian architecture.The rational analysis of the "prototype" as well as the objective interpretation of the "present type" bring forth the regional inheritance strategy-to inherit the traditonal materials and techniques,to integrate the old and the new.
