Since 1990s,China has entered a period of urbanization,and the major way to expand the city is to develop its extension,which is reflected in the development and construction of the new district.The development of new districts can not only provide a better place for the city’s new industrial and commercial housing,employment and infrastructure,but also give a chance to the development of all aspects of the city’s unified planning and coordination equilibrium of various industries.At the same time,the rapid and unbalanced development of new districts has brought some problems.Compactness is the quantitative index to reflect the compactness of urban space,and is the further development of Compact City Theory.This thesis is based on the research of compact and compact city.And the main idea is to set up evaluating indicators for the evaluation and measurement of compactness,which includes one class index of economy,efficiency and comfort,and another two and three different indicators by exploring the different function of each district.Also,to describe different characteristics in space of big city in different periods of construction,and to discuss the compactness measure of the old city and new residential blocks and blocks in the mixed residential by the history of the big city’s development in our country and the case of Longjiang district and the Aoti district.The research on the historical process of the development and evolution of the compact of the new district will be helpful for the future development of the new district.
