Architecture is a material carrier in many aspects such as social history, economy, culture, politics, and technology. No building can exist independently of the times. The ideas and trends of architecture can faithfully reflect the pace of the times. After the World War 2,the "international" style of modernist architecture quickly swept across the globe and solved people's housing needs in a short time. However,it also caused certain social problems such as over-unification of style and loss of traditional culture.Since the 1960s,developed countries have embarked on a variety of new architectural trends. However, they all reflected the criticism and reflection of the "international"style in varying degrees. In Portugal, the famous architecture school has emerged-"The Porto School",the school has been actively exploring the method of localization of modern architecture for half a century, and has also made a lot of achievements. The most famous representative of the Porto school is Fernando Tavora, then here came Siza, and now,De Moura has become an important inheritor of The Porto School. At the same time, his architectural ideas have also been influenced by the famous architects such as Ludwig Mies Van der Rohe and Luis Barragan. This article systematically studies De Moura's architectural concepts and design techniques through horizontal and vertical comparisons, summing up and summarizing, and analyzing the details. After argumentation,we can learn that De Moura's architectural ideas can be understood from three aspects:"geography","simplicity" and"reality":His works are "geographical".Buildings will be fully connected with their sites in both the natural and human environment. The means of making connections are also varied.Uniquely,he will allow the building to fully integrate into the natural qualities reflected in the site, and it will allow the building to respond to the traditional culture freely. He can always create buildings that "grow out" from the environment;his works is "minimalist".Under all circumstances,De Moura always maintains his own independent thinking. When he conceives ideas, the realization of architectural goals is always his primary consideration. The selection of architectural forms, spatial shaping, detailed processing, and material selection are all simple and pure, and can solve architectural conflicts well and satisfy the use of functions;his works are also"real." He believes that "construction" is the only important part of the construction that is worthy of objective discussion. The idea of construction should permeate every aspect of the design process.Every system in a building should be logically self-consistent.The use of building technology should not be limited to "traditional" or"modern".The use of this series of techniques should be a necessary condition for creating a "good”building.De Moura has won the recognition of the industry through arduous efforts and hard work for 30 years. He does not follow the trend and always maintains his own independent thinking. He has skillfully found a way to develop the Portuguese localization of modern architecture.Portugal's social and historical background and De Moura's successful experience still have some reference for China's rapid development of the construction industry.I hope that this article can,to a certain degree, lead to the reflection of Chinese architects' creation and contribute to the healthy development of Chinese architecture.
