Study On Architectural Geography

Man have greatly benefited from the accelerating modern civilization during its striking developing process. Meanwhile, some new environmental disruption and pollution problems emerge and impair human beings'standard of living environment. Owing to these, we have to attach much importance to geographical environmental problems and conclude and use historical experiences and lessons for reference to develop scientific architectural geography. At the same time, it's also very critical to correct those improper conceptions between man and nature and smooth the relationship between architecture and geography.Architectural geography is the basic theory we followed in the traditional way of site selection and planning programming for villages and small towns. It's eastern environmental science. According to this theory, the fundamental pattern of site selection for Chinese cities are the Yin-Yang theory and backed by mountain while faced by river belief. Maintaining harmonic relationship between man and nature is emphasized too. That is to make the cities and constructions more prettier and appropriate by means of background, foil, layer, profile, view borrowing and opposite scenery when mingled with mountains and rivers. It's essence is to make evaluation and choice on geology, geomorphology, hydrology, sunshine, wind direction, climate, meteorology and landscape when select sites and then take relative planning programming measures to fully and reasonably adapt and use nature to create harmonic and environment-friendly longstanding society. We can say that architectural geography is a environment designing theory and eastern environmental science in ancient China. It's a valuable wealth of our nation's cultural tradition and worth digging and drawing lessons from.This article commenced on documents, studied the reality, focused on the fork, emphasized on making the past serve the present and devoted to eco-optimization and environment protection. It's firmly against old-fashioned inveteracy while made new creation for new environment in new time. Standing on the predecessors'shoulders, this article induces and straightens out the descriptions of geography, architecture, Fengshui and architectural geography, discusses the situation of international architectural geography research, compares and concludes the differences and convergences of the findings, and discusses the developing trend and main contents of architectural geography research. Second, it also describes the theoretical outline of architectural geography in five aspects and generalizes seven exploration principles of architectural geography. The five aspects are as follows, the compositional factors, theoretical elements, ecological aesthetic characteristics of layout of human settlements, functions, impact on modern architectural theory, and the application of Qi-oriented principle in site selection.Third, it describes architectural geography from the view of architectural culture which included the strengthened characteristics of two architectural geography mode and four Guanzhong Basins----strengthened architectural geographical mode in the cultural stereotype period. Forth, it studies the site selection history of Huhhot on the basic of research of regional natural environment to support the application of architectural geographical theory in specific city site selection.
