Currently,the Chinese coal enterprises are at a key stage for transformation to overcome difficulties,along with which the building of corporate culture should make a transformation,too,and improvement is quite necessary.As we see,with the economic globalization and the international development of market,the enterprises can no longer remain on their products and services to gain competitiveness;instead,they should be engaged in the game of overall competitiveness,for which corporate culture building is an important part that has either influence or restriction on the improvement of product influence,market competitiveness,industrial voice and social reputation.Corporate culture is a complex carrier of an enterprise's unique features,style and vitality and also a necessary factor for coal enterprises to maintain their core competitiveness.Shenhua Group Corporation Limited is a very large enterprise under the direct supervision of the Chinese central government as well as the biggest coal supplier of China.Since its establishment more than 20 years ago,it has been highly motivated to explore ways to build its culture,striving to foster a culture showing the unique characteristics of Chinese coal enterprises.However,due to a late start of researches on corporate culture building in China,for most of the time,the group can only draw experience from foreign enterprises for building of corporate culture.Therefore,following the principle of borrowing overseas experience for localized application,the group has developed a kind of corporate culture by appropriately taking successful foreign cases as reference and modifying their experience to adapt to the Chinese social environment and show Chinese characteristics.Although there is still space for the corporate culture of Shenhua to get continuous improvement,it has provided successful cases and valuable experiences for the Chinese coal enterprises and other state-owned enterprises to build their own corporate culture.The paper covers a series of systematic studies and analysis of the beneficial explorations of the group in building corporate culture since its establishment.The paper sets out a number of theories and viewpoints related to the culture building of coal enterprises mainly based on systematic and case analysis approaches,literature review,questionnaires and interviews and gives a comprehensive analysis of the current culture building of the group based on the lessons and experience from domestic and foreign corporate culture development,covering the problems of undistinguished characteristics,imperfect system,lack of inheritance and lack of modern sense as well as the causes of these problems.On the basis of this,it provides the ideas and measures to intensify the culture building of the coal enterprises,including continuous cultural enrichment,improvement of staff quality,enhancement of innovation,integration of modern elements,focus on typical guidance,establishment of characteristic examples,construction of cultural carriers,building of cultural brands,establishment of cultural image and continuous people-centered development,aiming to provide helpful experience for the group and other related enterprises to build their own corporate culture.
