Comparative Study Of Subject Services In Chinese And Foreign Libraries

Subject service is one of the main services for the users of the library,especially in the academic libraries at home and abroad.It's an important innovation measure of the library to provide service for teaching and scientific research under the ubiquitous information environment.Along with the improvement of user's demand and the change of external information environment,the content and mode of the subject service,which has an great practicality,are constantly enriched.Subject service work of the foreign Libraries started early,theoretical research and practical work is becoming more and more mature,while the domestic subject service is in the transition period of development and there is still a great room for improvement of it.The method of comparative analysis is mainly used in this paper,through the analysis of domestic and international research status and practice of subject services,this study can not only provide a more comprehensive and objective cognitive perspective,but also can provide a good inspiration for the improvement of academic research and practical work of the domestic subject service.The basic idea of this research is to compare and analyze the current situation of the theoretical research and practice work of domestic and international library subject service and to find out the gap and deficiency of domestic subject service in these two aspects.According to the problems,the corresponding improvement strategies were proposed.This paper mainly consists of five chapters.The main ideas are as follows:The first chapter gives an introduction on the background and significance of the topic,the current research situations of the library subject services at home and abroad,the concept of the subject service and the definition of the research category,the current research situations of the library subject services at home,research methods and research tools and so on.The second chapter mainly uses the mathod in Scientometrics to carry out the quantitative comparison analysis on the current status of the theoretical research on the subject service at home and aboard.Using the papers colleteced form the database of WOS and CSSCI as the research samples and with the help of the visualization software CiteSpace III,Ucinet,NetDraw and so on,this study compared the amount of articles,distribution of countries(or regions),research trunk pathes,hotspots at China and aboard respectively.In the third chapter,Website survey method is used to investigate the general situation,resources,subject librarian and subject service contents of domestic 20''university libraries and 20''researching university libraries website of the foreign countries and compared the characteristics and differences between them from the aspects of Literature resources,learning commons,subject guides,teaching support services and research support services and so on.From this,the paper points out the shortcomings of the current domestic practice.The forth chapter puts forward the improvement strategy of domestic theoretical research and work practice respectively that mainly based on the results of the third chapter and the fourth chapter.The last part summarizes the whole situation of this study,points out the deficiency of the paper,and puts forward the research prospects and directions.
