Narrative Research On The Character Of "People" Magazine (2012 ~ 2015)

Since ancient times,people enjoy the fun of the stories.Telling stories and listening to stories is their instinctive desires.The essence of narration is storytelling,Story has the nature of narrative feature,which determines that it is the best model for the study of genre of news by narrative theory.In order to adapt to the tide of cultural industry reform,“People” magazine did its revision in May 2012,take the sentence of “Human is the yardstick of everything” as their slogan,respect and maintain the values of each individual,and,provide more character reports with humanistic concern.On one hand,“People” focuses on hotspots of the times,on the other hand,it also pays attention to the multifaceted values of folk figures.The new “People” holds that “It is their duty to let the readers feel the temperature of the reported persons”.Having a cool and objective point of view and meticulous detailed description,the character features on it are of literary and technical nature,which resulting in a unique character appeal and the formation of a wide range of social impact.This paper analyzes the features of the characters in the “People” magazine by using a combination of narratology analysis and text analysis.The author starts from four aspects: narrative subject,narrative time,narrative structure and narrative skill.This paper tries to sum up the narrative rules of the character features on the magazine,and make some contribute to the development of Journalism.
