The thesis summarized the research findings about fashion magazine from inner and outside of China academia, which on the basis of feminism, consumerism and ideology. Secondly, the thesis briefed narrative characteristics of novels and movies which are considered as typical research subjects of classical narratology. Meanwhile, comparing movies and novels with fashion magazine, search for narrative differences among the above media in order to supply available models to fashion magazine. Do narrative strategies analysis on Chinese and English editions Harper’s Bazaar magazine, and conclude features of narrative structures and narrative functions, such as advertisement portion of magazine, cover story, column settings and intertextuality, etc. Finally, do comparative analysis on Chinese and English Harper’s Bazaar magazine and find out the advantages and disadvantages of them.During the research, I realized that no matter Chinese or English editions of Harper’s Bazaar both propaganda consumerism eagerly. Magazines adopt methods of narrative intervention and intertextuality to merge advertisement into contents of magazine, which may affect readers gradually. At the same time, Harper’s Bazaar constructs semiotics through depicting a great amount of celebrities and luxury goods in order to upgrade its taste and position.
