| The research subject of this dissertation is the oppositional reading of network news comments. This concept was put forward by Hall who is a British cultural studies scholar. The oppositional reading mainly refers that the netizens fully understand the literal and connotative meaning of media messages, but they interpret with the opposite approach. This is a common phenomenon that netizens use the opposite way to read netnews. However, there are very few people to research the problem. What are the expression ways of the oppositional reading? What is the group psychology when they use the opposite way to read netnews? What are the factors which cause the oppositional reading? These are the main research contents of the dissertation.There are four chapters in this dissertation. The functions of network news comments and the phenomenon of oppositional reading are interpreted in the first chapter. The expression ways of the oppositional reading are sorted in the second chapter. It is the most common expression way that the netizens questioned the reported content, which is a direct way. While there are quite a number of netizens will take artistic way to confront. They deconstruct the media information through a variety of forms such as rhetoric, banter, and kuso. In addition, ignoring media information is a silent confrontation, such as paying no attention to the typical characters shaped by media or the flattering reports of officials. Those confrontation ways mentioned above are focused on the media information itself. Beyond that, there is another way of oppositional reading that the netizens abandon the original news content and overturn the propagating purpose to construct the news topic.The psychologies and factors of oppositional reading are analyzed in the third chapter. Based on relevant theories of psychology and communications, the psychologies of oppositional reading are analyzed, which are group reverse psychology, stereotypes psychology, the spiral and anti-spiral of silence psychology and extreme catharsis psychology and so on. There are complex reasons to explain these types of psychologies. Firstly, the development of internet makes it easy for netizens to get independent reading and oppositional reading. Secondly, with the enhancement of participation sense, it becomes more and more urgent for netizens to express long-term suppressed emotions. In the period of social transition, there are a lot of contradictions, such as the disordered development of focusing on efficiency and ignoring equity, collusion of corrupt officials in financial and power-for-money deals, which make netizens to become frightened and oppositional reading of official information become common. Thirdly, from the perspective of culture, whether the psychologies or the expression forms of oppositional reading are deeply influenced by Chinese traditional culture and post-modern culture which takes pleasure in deconstruction. Finally, the direct factor is media itself for oppositional reading. Some strategies are put forward to dredge the oppositional reading of netizens in the fourth chapter.It is a long-term process to form the oppositional reading of network news comments. Therefore, it also needs a long time to dredge it and make it develop in rational and constructive direction. All of these require the government, the media and the public to work together. |
