Investigation On Oral Health Status And Oral Health Behavior Of Secondary Vocational Students In Jining City, Shandong Province

Objective:the study is to carry out oral health knowledge and behavior questionnaires among the secondary vocational school students in Jining,Shandong province so as to learn their oral health knowledge status.We have got the first-hand data of the oral health status among the secondary vocational school students,which would be very helpful for us to understand oral health status of vocational students and find the main oral health problems.In addition,the relationship between health status and oral health behavior was investigated according to those data,thus providing a basic reference for future vocational students'oral health survey and conduction of scientific vocational students'oral health education to improve the oral health status of students in secondary vocational schools.Methods:A total of 1200 students from secondary vocational schools in Jining,Shandong province were investigated in our research project.According to the third national oral epidemiological survey<vocational students oral health questionnaire>,questionnaire survey and oral health examination of the samples were carried out,and the database was established and statistical analysis was done by using SPSS 18.0 software.Results:The way to obtain oral health knowledge for secondary vocational school students are usually as follows:34.4%was from by parents,24.6%was from the network,9.4%was from school oral health education and 12.1%was from hospital oral health propagations.Only 10.5%of the students know dental plaque,87.6%of the students don't think that regular oral examination does matter or necessary,8.5%of the students know the reason of gingival bleeding and 56%of the students know the etiology of dental caries.The survey showed that 86.7%of the students brush the teeth daily,24.1%of the students brush their teeth more than two times daily,14.1%of the students use fluoride toothpaste,8.1%of the students use dental floss.35.1%of the students smoke,10.7%of the students drink and 69.6%of the students like eating sweet foods.The results showed that 40.5%of the students suffer from dental caries and the plaque detection rate is 87%.Through x² test,it is concluded that sex,brushing,eating sweet foods and plaque are all factors to influence on the incidence of dental caries.Conclusion:Vocational students'oral health knowledge is quite deficient;they acquire the knowledge mainly from their parents and the network.Their stutus of oral health behaviors is poor,and the smoking rate is high.The oral health needs to be paid attention to.A series of effective oral health education program should be formulated to improve the oral health knowledge,strengthen the awareness of oral health care,thus improving the level of oral health status of students in secondary vocational schools.
