Purpose: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine Run Ming decoction combined with Artificial Tears in treatment of dry eye.To seek the effective treatment methods of dry eye with both Qi and Yin deficiency.Material and method: This research collected 64 patients(128 eyes)who were diagnosed as dry eye with both Qi and Yin deficiency in He Eye Hospital from July to December in 2016.The patients(128 eyes)were randomly divided into treatment group composed of 32 patients(64 eyes)and control group composed of 32 patients(64 eyes). The patients in treatment group took 100 ml Run Ming decoction, two times a day, combined with Artificial Tears(polyethylene glycol eye drops),5 times a day for both eyes. The patients in control group only used Artificial Tears(polyethylene glycol eye drops),5 times a day for both eyes. The clinical efficacy indicator of dry eye(the subjective symptoms score,SIt,BUT and Corneal fluorescein staining)were observed before and after 4 weeks treatment. Results: 1.After 4 weeks treatment, the overall effective rate of the treatment group was 90.32%,significantly higher than 76.67% of the control group, which had significant statistical differences(P <0.05).2.After 4 weeks treatment, both groups showed the subjective symptoms score and corneal fluorescein staining score decreased(P<0.01);the treatment group showed both SIt and BUT increased(P<0.01);the control group showed BUT increased(P<0.01),SIt increased had no statistical difference(P>0.05).3.After 4 weeks treatment, the treatment group showed the subjective symptoms score(including dry feeling, foreign body sensation, asthenopia)was lower than the control group, and SIt,BUT were better than the control group(P<0.05).4.After 4 weeks treatment, there was not statistical difference between the two groups in both subjective symptoms score(including pain of eye, white eye redness)and FL(P>0.05).Conclusions: Both Artificial Tears and Run Ming decoction combined with Artificial Tears could improve the patient's subjective symptoms and objective indicator to a certain extent, but the clinical efficacy of combined treatment group was obviously better.
