The family business has a major impact on the national economy healthy and orderly development, which not only can effectively solve the problem of local residents(enterprises near regions) employment, employment of university students, unemployed, and post training and other issues, also plays an irreplaceable role in the development of local economy, regional property tax, industrial structure optimization, and ownership structure, balanced regional development, especially for the family enterprises in the economic effect is very obvious. However, due to the differences in geographical environment, historical and cultural differences, and the Chinese Ministry of business ideas of the larger differences, family business to their own successful experience of retention and other issues, the family business is still a lot of development bottlenecks and difficult to solve the problem of short-term difficulties. Co McKinsey, a famous American consulting company, found that the average life span of the world's family business is only 24 years, and only about 30% of the company can be inherited to the second generation of entrepreneurs, can inherit the third generation of the company is about 13%, only 5% of the company can be inherited to the fourth generation, family business development process is very difficult. More than just the data analysis of the world, if we look back on the development of Chinese enterprises, family business development and succession cycle is shorter, faster update. Therefore, based on the actual situation of family enterprises in China, this paper selects the Tianshui province Tianshui as a regional research environment, and selects the A family enterprise as the research object in Gansu province. First of all, based on the research and analysis of family enterprise literature and A enterprise management status, this research establishes the competency model of senior managers in family business, and uses behavior event interview and questionnaire survey to collect data.Research findings:(1) The Tianshui A family enterprise in the top management competency model of the project include: leadership, planning, interpersonal communication skills, professional skills, the use of talent, learning ability, decision-making ability, innovation ability and so on 8 aspects.(2) The difference between different managers: the managers of different gender in the A family business in Tianshui are not significantly different from the above eight competency characteristics. From the perspective of age, "interpersonal communication", "professional skills", "innovation ability" there are obvious differences. In interpersonal communication, the senior managers of 30 years and 30 years of age were lower than 41 years of age; 30 years of age were better than those of 40 years old. Among the top managers of A family business, different cultural levels in the "innovation ability" has a more significant difference: the higher education in the middle and high level managers score significantly higher than those in the lower level of middle and senior management. Managers in the enterprise working time is only in the "leadership" on the difference, in other ways and no difference, work for more than 10 years in the middle and senior managers score is obviously higher than 3 years in senior management.
