The in-depth study of contemporary media technologies is a key path to understanding the crisis of contemporary social governance.Logan as a media ecology researcher has acutely observed the complex relationship between media technology and society, and has conducted continuous and systematic research. There are three themes of Logan 's research on the relationship between media technology and society.Theme 1: The alphabet effect: Inventing Western culture.Primarily based on the alphabet effect, language is used to link media technology with Western culture to find the source of human civilization.Theme 2: Origins of Culture:Extension of Mind.Tells the relationship between language and mind and culture, thinks that the co-evolution of the two contributed to the extension of the mind.Theme 3:Extending McLuhan: Understanding the New Media.Logan inherited and developed McLuhan's media thoughts and put forward his own unique methodology and media technology view.Logan uses the mainstream media of social development as the stage basis, divides the media technology into the non-verbal analog communication age,the oral communication era,the written communication era,the mass communication age,and the interactive digital media. Its history compilation program reflects causality.Principles of sexuality, impartiality, symmetry, and reflexivity.Logan's research expands the research object of media environment, extends from tangible media to abstract linguistic media, and opens a new path for the understanding of the relationship between science and technology and society for science and technology, understanding and governing modern media societies. The issue is also of practical significance.Logan's study of the history of media technology also extended McLuhan's theory, attempting to exert his theoretical insights at a more fundamental source, from language to alphabet effects.
