In recent years,IPTV,large-scale online games and high-definition video broadcast business develop fast. The demand of public for internet is increasing,so that the original broadband access technology has been unable to meet the demand. With the continuous development of fiber access technology,EPON and GPON technology continues to mature. In the future, network fiber can be fully accessed in urban and rural areas. In view of the above problems, this paper designs the fiber access of Hohhot Giant Sea City District. This paper summarizes the development process of PON technology, analyzes the technical advantages and technical principles of GPON,and focuses on the application of GPON access network. Then, based on the analysis of the present situation of broadband network in Hohhot Unicom branch, combined with the current research about PON access technology at home and abroad, the paper presents the project of GPON in Hohhot Giant Sea City.According to the original network status of this district, the access technology is updatedfrom EPON to GPON.The access mode is updatedfrom PON + AD to FTTH(fiber to the home). The side access to the cable of the original users has been all changed to Fiber optic cable and telephone line has been replaced by fiber optic cable line. The router of users' is replaced by ONT.After optical fiber access, the users' network bandwidth has been significantly improved with more than 50M megabytes of bandwidth access.Fiber optic access project in Hohhot Giant Sea City District is one of 50M Fiber optic transformation projects in 60 large-scale residential districts. It is a good beginning of GPON network construction in Hohhot Unicom. The completion of the project has a guiding significance on the GPON network construction of Hohhot Unicom in future.
