Research On U.S. And Russia's Reports On Syria War From The Perspective Of National Strategic Communications

Nowadays,with the development of economy and society,the role of communication is getting more and more crucial.In order to improve the international communication ability as well as competing for international saying rights,the United States and Russia is trying their best to improve the strategic communication system,where the media is one of the most important and most direct way to achieve it,.Therefore it's one of the most effective and also one of a few accesses to study it through the media coverage.This study focuses on the report of the US and Russian media on the Syrian civil war from the perspective of strategic communication.Syrian war is one of the longest and broadest war in human history,which means a lot to both the U.S.and Russia.The U.S.wants to overthrow president Assad and to rebuild a pro-U.S.government while Russia fights for protecting Assad to maintain it's national interests in Syria and Mediterranean Sea.Their national interests veries a lot in Syria.This paper takes VOA,Russia Today and New York Times as example.VOA and RT are sponsored by government,while NYT is a market-oriented newspaper.This paper applies content analysis to analyze whether and how media of different countries reports Syrian war.Besides,NYT is applied to analyze whether media of same country but different backgrounds report Syrian war in a same way,namely,to live up to national interest.This study takes three events as target events:burst period in 2011,chemical weapons events,and refugee boy drown in Turkey.Moreover,this paper is followed by the five study catagories:time,report means,objects,sourse and inclination.it is found that both American and Russian media' report fleet it's national interest.VOA and NYT share same attitude about these events.The discuss of the reason is at the end of this paper,as well as some suggestions to establishment of national strategic communication for China.
