Content Analysis Of Russia Today's Reports On Huawei Issues

Every progress in communication technology changed the world profoundly and right now the hit would be 5G technology.A leading provider of information and communications technology infrastructure and smart devices from China,Huawei does not only have an edge over the opposition but also is expanding the world market.However,the cause going overseas is not always smooth.Against the background of the competitions between China and the United States,Huawei is targeted especially by the latter in multiple ways.The research aims to focus on Russia's new prominent media Russia Today(RT),in hope to know the attitude of Russia,a major power on the globe,towards Huawei and other nations by examining its reports on Huawei issues.In addition,it also wants to learn from RT's reporting strategies to help China communicate better with the outside world.In this study,written news articles on Huawei in 2019 from RT official website are selected as samples,and a content analysis of the reports is conducted guided by the three levels of agenda-setting theory.It is found that RT's most obvious feature is undermining the hegemony of the United States under the cover of Huawei reports.In addition to revealing how the hegemonic image of the United States is highlighted through networked analysis,the research identified RT's secret ways of setting media agenda during correlational study,which are,by setting the preference of 1)the proportion of topics in different news sections and reports with different level of focus,2)article length and 3)news sources from neither China nor the United States,RT can affect the audience's perceptions of the United States and China with hardly any notice.The study also summarized the attitudes of different countries towards Huawei and the relations between Russia and other countries.Overall,this research contributes to the knowledge of RT's reporting methods,overseas climate Huawei has to face,and Russia's international relations.
