Agenda-setting capacity of mass media definitely embodies competitiveness in opinion market as well as its commercial standing today. International images profoundly forged by various media reveal to its nature, the fierce competition between one nation and another on a global scale. This study honored New York Times, which enjoys its unmatched prestige to all, to be a specific object while, series of news coverage on "shenzhou 5" by this paper is taken into a ever-close perspective, in an attempt to outline national image of China mirrored and to demonstrate its very sophistications as an efficient path to audiences. In this context, related capacity in agenda-setting of media in China is unsurprisingly found in disturbing lack and thus, methodologies and strategies for media in economically inferior states are probed into for the sake of being launched unto pressure by their toppling counterparts.Four chapters are included in this paper as: Chapter Ⅰ is designed to pay a brief revision of national images on China along the history, together with an outlining of image switches and its features on various historic stages ( from the United States, esp.); ChapterⅡ, focusing on the earth-shaking event------" shenzhou 5" , reflect the deliberateprocedures presented by New York Times in full landscape; Chapter Ⅲ then, attaches very importance to decoding its agenda-setting program in a close-touch and multi-camera manner to its depth; finally, in Chapter Ⅳ, cultural, historical and realistic political perspective are staged as a hole to see daylight, based on the established achievements by pioneers and efforts above, to measure the eye-catching inferiority in strength of media in China, against New York Times from aspect of influential power internationally, which is obviously relied on to enlighten possible causes behind and the significance of this study on realistic plate.
