The only-child group in China is a special generation under the national policy of family planning which has been practiced since 1980 and this group has uniqueness both in time and space dimensions.While the introduction of the new policy of family planning,which allows two children in a family,marks the one-child policy history,it is still hard for most families,who were the pioneers of the one-child policy during the initial period,to enjoy the benefits of the new policy because of health risks.Therefore,this group still exists in the foreseeable decades and has its particularity and research value on several social issues such as growth,occupation,marriage,retirement and so on.Based on the analysis above and according to the research paradigm of Journalism and Communications,this paper selectively analyzes the exposure process and the construct system of the media image of the only-child group.From a frame analysis perspective,this study selects data from the subdata base known as “the most influential comprehensive newspapers in mainland China” which consists of 28 newspapers from Media Insight such as Southern Weekly,People's Daily,Beijing News,Chutian Metropolis Daily and the Beijing Youth Daily.By analyzing the contents of the reports related to the only-child group ranged from 2000 to 2016,the study reappears the media image of this group.What's more,it also researches the construct system and related causes of such image and discusses some social issues reflected under such a media environment.After all the research and discussion,the study has made four significant findings as following: firstly,although the media reports has a tendency to objectivate of the media image of the only-child group,most of them are negative.Secondly,the negative reports mainly focus on growth and living conditions.Thirdly,these reports are apt to stigmatize and label the only-child generation.Finally,these reports reflect educational problem,social stress problem,employment discrimination and sexism to which this group are facing up.The conclusion part includes three parts.First,it shows the balanced and comprehensive reporting norms that journalists should obey as news producers.Second,the media should perform its responsibility as the Gatekeeper of reports to ensure the authenticity of information.Third,it concludes that the scientific means to make report analysis has a key effect on the elimination of stereotype and prejudice.
