Optimization And Evolution Of The Yancheng Cable TV's IP Broadband Metropolitan Area Network

With the rapid development of the communication technologies, the cable television network have implemented many applications, such as broadband Internet, VOD(Video On Demand), data communication in leased line mode, and so on. In 2009, the CATV network of Yancheng launched an IP broadband MAN(metropolitan area network), witch covers the central city. The network provides an Internet access, VPN leased line, interactive on-demand and many other services. It has led to considerable economic returns and social benefits. However, the average network bandwidth for the users is in general quite limited, and the network management has a low efficiency. It is difficult to guarantee QoS(quality of service). This is mainly due to the early construction time of the network and low performance of the equipments from that time.In the past few years, there have been extensively high demands for broadband network businesses. Both the national and the Jiangsu government have also released guidelines on the broadband development. The current IP MAN in the Yancheng CATV network is obviously not enough for the actual needs within the near future, from the perspective of technologies, performances, controllable and managements. It has to be improved and optimized.Recently, the IP broadband MAN technologies have been rapidly developed towards the directions of routing, flat and dual-core. Fiber-to-the-Home(FTTH) has been leading in the network access. Based on this fact, it is of high importance to study and thus improve the IP broadband MAN of Yancheng CATV network?First of all,this paper analyzes the current situation faced by the development of CATV network and the development of the Internet. It gives introductions on the development trends of metropolitan area network and the history of the Yancheng Cable TV's IP broadband MAN. It points out the existing problems in the IP MAN of Yancheng now and makes a deep analysis, points out the main content and the significance of this research. Then the paper presents the development principles and goals to achieve for the optimization project.Secondly, it describes in detail the project goals and steps from the perspectives of the core layer, the convergence layer, the control layer of the access, and the access network.Lastly, it presents the routing and the QoS deployment strategy of the IP MAN. It gives a whole optimization and evolution roadmap of the Yancheng Cable TV's IP broadband MAN within the coming five years and even a longer.
