Access Network (AN) is the core to help user terminals accessing to the telecommunication network. It is the key of the whole communication network to be more digital, broadbanding and integrated. It is very important for the communication network not only at present, but also in the future. AN becomes the biggest component of the communication network. The cost of building AN is almost more than half of the total expenses of the network construction. Nowadays, many broadband access technologies have been adopted in the local communication network. The choice of the ways of broadband access is very important for telcom operators. It is directly affects the quality of service. And it is also relates to the cost of investment and the long-term development of the telcom operators.In this thesis, technology principles, systerm architectures, technical performance and characteristics of broadband access technologies are analyzed at first. Then we explore the network construction and the planning scheme of the GPON broadband access. The research objiect is Ezhou filiale of China Telecommunication Corporation in this thesis for the aim of effectibely guide the AN’s investment and construction. Many methods are used for deeply studying. Such as investigation, empirical research, quantitative analysis, experience summarizing and so on. In according to the status in quo of Ezhou filiale’s market environment, user requirements, network status and investment scale, some kinds of AN’s investiment plan and construction plan has been targeted proposed in the thesis. This plan which has just proposed can totally meet the need of requirements within the next three years. And it has better practical guiding significance.
