The Crossbar switch architecture has become the mainstream switch architecture with the features of simple structure,large capacity and easy to expand,which is the most widely used among Ethernet switches.In this paper,which bases on the project "the design and implementation of large capacity Ethernet switch" undertaken by our lab team.Firstly,this paper introduces the basic knowledge of Ethernet switches and the different caching modes in the Crossbar switching fabric.Secondly,the overall design and sub modules of the Crossbar Ethernet switches based on CICQ structure are described in detail.Thirdly,the realization method of the Crossbar system is given to the key modules and key technologies in the Crossbar switch,which make the Crossbar switch with good extensibility.These key modules and key technologies include: interface conversion and Mac IP,insertion and capture modules,forwarding synchronization update technology,switch bus aggregation and bus utilization.Finally,the Crossbar switch is accomplished with Verilog HDL language,the correctness of the switch function is verified by Modelsim simulation software,and the Crossbar switch is tested on the FPGA platform,the whole design is verified correctly,and its function and performance both meet the expected target,which fully proves that Crossbar switch in this paper has a prominent advantage in the scalability and forwarding performance when compared to traditional switches.
