A Philological Study On Dunhuang Manuscripts Of Dacheng Daogan Jing And Its Commentaries

Foshuo Dacheng Daogan Jing(佛説大乘稻芉经),referred to Dacheng Daogan Jing(大乘稻芊经)in the following text,is the Buddhist scripture which thoroughly explains the rules of Yuanqi(缘起).Dachengdaoganjing Suiting Shu(大乘稻芉经随听疏)and Dachengdaoganjing Suiting Shujue(大乘稻芉经随听疏决)are both Chinese commentaries of Dacheng Daogan Jing(大乘稻芉经),which are also the most important references for understanding the content of this Buddhist scripture.But neither of the two commentaries has carving copies handed down.Benefit from the discovery of Dunhuang documents and the publications of microfilms and facsimiles,an increasing number of excavated manuscripts of Dacheng Daogan Jing(大乘稻芉经)have been becoming available for researchers in photographic format.According to our statistical data,there are 140 Dunhuang Chinese manuscripts of Dacheng Daogan Jing(大乘稻芉经)and its commentaries.This paper explores these manuscripts in five parts.Part one is to describe the identified manuscripts of Dacheng Daogan Jing(大乘稻芉经)and its commentaries one by one,including a lot of detailed information such as the completion,content,calligraphy style,writing time and so on,which can lay a foundation for the further study,e.g.rejoining and revising.Part two is to identify the unidentified fragments.First introduce the layout and character form of each fragment with picture,then give the predicate based on the content.Besides,this part also renames the identified manuscripts with incorrect or uncertain names.Part three is to rejoin 25 fragments of Dacheng Daogan Jing(大乘稻芉经)and its commentaries into 10 groups by analyzing both the content and the material manifestation of that content,and corroborate each conclusion with rejoined pictures.These achievements can provide more clues for relevant study,e.g.identifying and dating.Part four is to study one suspected manuscript whose number is Jinyi 72(津艺72).Through investigating the history and comparing the handwriting,this part points out that the words"Datang Sanzang Fashi Fengzhao Yi(大唐三藏法师奉诏译)”are all falsified by other people.Besides,this part also discusses the facticity of the main body and some alterations of this manuscript by comparing it with other manuscripts such as Jinyi 72(津艺 72)and Beidun 6205(北敦 6205).Part five is to collate and edit Dachengdooganjing Suiting Shujue(大乘稻芉经随听疏决).Taisho Tripitaka takes in this document according to Bo 2328-1(伯2328-1),which is only one-tenth content of the whole,and has many mistakes against the relevant study.This part collates the document by taking advantage of Dunhuang manuscripts,lists the differences in order to restore an original and uncorrupted version.
