Some Confusions In The Long-term Preservation Of Social Media

With the rapid development of Internet,information technology and Web 2.0,social media is playing a more and more important role in people's daily life.The social media data whose main content is User Generated Content are records of the culture life in 21 th century and valuable assets for researchers in scientific research.Compared with other digital resources,social media has its own particularity.This inevitably leads to many confusions and challenges for long-term preservation.This article summarized the definition,characteristics,preservation significance of social media,and then analyzed the current technology and the research status of social media preservation at home and abroad.The author found that there are confusions in each stage of the long-term preservation of social media.Social media harvesting confusions,including harvesting ways and boundary definition;social media preservation confusions,including social platform terms,preservation technology,preservation standard and content,and preservation practice;social media usage confusions,including copyright infringement,user privacy,and access practice.The purpose of this study is to carry out comparative research on the current theory and practice of the social media preservation,make a systematic analysis for the confusions in social media long-term preservation,and provide a research direction and guidance for the future study.The author hopes that researchers in this field will explore solutions in the future studies and apply them to the preservation of the future practice.
