Research On Digital Resource Long-term Preservation And Usage Of The University Libraries

The development of information technology and digital resource increases year by year is making a change of the university academic communication. On the one hand, a change of the academic communication channels and range that open access and institutional repository became the present universities the main way of scholarly communication; On the other hand, the way of teaching and scientific research in colleges gradually digital and network make more and more users preference using the network search engine to search material and produce more and more digital form academic achievement. Digital collections provide convenience for the current users and also bring challenge for university library to save them, because of vulnerability and dependence on the technology and carrier. How to long-term preserve digital resources and ensure them can be long-term and efficiently utilize, become the university library problem to be solved.In this paper, the research mainly surrounds the college library digital resources for long-term preservation and utilization actives. The main content is divided into four parts:The first part studies the basic theory of the university library digital resources long-term preservation and utilization. The content includes two sections. One is to overview the concept, significance, motive and mode of the digital resource long-term preservation and utilization, and another discusses the digital resource types and characteristic.The second part introduces the current development of six foreign university libraries in digital preservation and usage research and analysis of the characteristics of their research and the revelation of Chinese university library.The third part focuses on the problems of digital preservation and utilization of Chinese university libraries. First, the author analysis the legal issues such as copyright and privacy that may be encountered in the long-term preservation and utilization of different types of digital resources. Then the author deals with the technologies and technical problems related to the long-term preservation and utilization of the digital resources. Finally, the author discusses the shortage of funds and high cost of long-term preservation and utilization of digital resources of Chinese university libraries.The fourth part solves the existing problem of the preservation and utilization of Chinese university library digital resources, and proposes the corresponding countermeasures. Based on the experience of the latest development of long-term preservation of foreign university library digital resources, the author believes that the university library should develop a long-term guidance for digital preservation and utilization, and seek the regulation and standardization for the digital resources preservation corresponding with the intellectual property. The most important thing is to strengthen the cooperated establishment of digital resources long-term preservation and utilization.
