Wireless network is one of the hottest technologies, especially the Wireless Sensor Network and other new network like Internet of things and Ubiquitous network. They are widely used in a variety of applications, such as environmental monitoring, industrial control, prediction and detection of natural calamities and so on.And a large part of this application have strict constraint on delay performance, and real-time data is vital in those application.Although much research has been expended on solving the delay problem, little attention has been devoted to understanding the potential limitation.Indeed,state-of-the-art protocols consider delay issue From a single point of view,so that they fail to see the hidden requirements, for example,in disaster prediction applications, the network need not only better delay performance, but also robustness. In this paper,we did deeply analysis on such applications, and concluded that the challenge of low latency in traditional WSN is the dual requirement of high robustness and low latency, and in network composed by energy harvesting nodes is the dual requirement of low energy consumption and low latency,so we have put forward the corresponding solutions to these needs. This paper mainly carried out a few aspects of the study.1.In the case of traditional WSN,a Robust and Delay-Aware Routing protocol(RDR)is proposed. We introduce a scheme during the route discovery phase to find a robust and low latency guide path, which can provide more cooperative forwarding opportunities.Along the guide path, data packets are greedily progressed toward the destination through nodes'cooperation.Based on that,RDR can provide good delay performance in both good and harsh network environment. While ensuring that any node can communicate with other, thus solving the dual challenge of delay and robustness.2.In the case of traditional Energy Havesting Node,a Energy efficient Delay Guaranteed MAC protocol(ED-MAC)is proposed. The initiator of the communication is transferred from the sending node to the receiving node and the communication is initiated by the receiving node for the energy-harvesting node.Through the estimation of the arrival time of the packet, the idle listening time is reduced, and the dual challenge of delay and low energy consumption is solved by adjusting the sensor nodes' duty cycles dynamically to the varying traffic condition, establishing rendezvous times between neighbors and planning the rendezvous schedules carefully.Meanwhile ED-MAC does not need to clock synchronization.3.In view of the above agreement, this paper uses OMNeT++ platform to carry out a large number of simulation experiments.Experimental and simulation results show the proposed protocol proposed validity and correctness from all aspects.Compared with the existing methods, the proposed protocol not only can meet the requirements of delay performance, but also can meet the potential requirements of the next. Our work make the wireless network adapt to the application with Low latency restrictions better, and show more application potential.
