With the rapid growth in the demand for mobile video, big data, cloud computing, smart cities and other applications, the data centers supporting these applications have sprung up around the world. However, the traditional electronic interconnection technology cannot meet the increasing bandwidth demand because of the narrow system bandwidth, short distance, high power consumption, high latency, electromagnetic compatibility and other problems. The optical interconnection technology with huge bandwidth, long distance, low power consumption, low latency switching and non-interference has become an inevitable trend for the future communication development and attracted more and more people's research attention.The board or embedded optical module based on COBO(Consortium for On-Board Optics) technology is the future development trend of high-speed parallel optical interconnection in the data center. Therefore, Microsoft, Cisco, Intel and 14 data-center suppliers co-founded a COBO organization in early 2015. The organization aims to setup new industry standards through cooperation, to standardize the fiber optic modules from the panel to the fiber module inside, and to study the corresponding industry roadmap. COBO hopes to make efforts for the next-generation data center and cloud environment based fiber applications, and to establish industry standards with the purpose to reduce power consumption and increase bandwidth through the joint efforts from the leading industry manufacturers.The thesis aims to study the key technologies of high-speed parallel optical interconnection module based on COBO technology and to give an effective module design scheme. The work can be divided into five parts:Firstly, the thesis introduces the research background, domestic and abroad research status and the significance of the research.Secondly, the thesis describes the structure and working principle of the optical interconnection module, the design requirements of the optical module and the related parameters.Thirdly, the key technologies of the design of the high-speed parallel optical interconnection module based on COBO technology is provided. The module design mainly includes three parts:circuit design, optical design and thermal design. Each part carries on the theoretical analysis and simulation from different dimensions to provide technical support for the design of the high-speed parallel optical interconnection module based on COBO technology.Fourthly, based on the above research, a design scheme of high-speed parallel optical interconnection module based on COBO technology is presented and implemented. The performance parameters of the designed optical interconnection module are evaluated and analyzed through tests. The test results show that all the performance parameters of the module can meet the design requirements and verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the designed scheme.In the end, the whole research contents are summarized and prospected.
