MBD(Model based definition) is a kind of digitization technology which integrates a lot of definition information into the 3D models to express the products data, making the paperless manufacturing possible. In this paper, The MBD-based 3D process design is studied through the combination of MBD technology and the 3D process plan. The structure of this paper is as follows:Firstly, the classification method and structure of 3D process information are presented based on the process MBD information management system to integrate the process information. The overall plan and the procedure of the 3D process design based on MBD is proposed.Secondly, the processing feature information management technology based on MBD is researched on the basis of the overall plan. The common processing features are classified and the AAG(Attribute Adjacency Graph) method is studied. The traditional AAG method is expanded using the technology of CATIA's secondary development. The MBD specification for extracting the processing feature information is summarized. The XML files are used to manage the basic information of the process MBD model.Thirdly, the method of process knowledge and the semantic inference are studied based on the process information management. The process knowledge base is established based on ontology. The process rule base is established based on the SWRL language. The process knowledge inference is done with the help of Jess inference engine to obtain the preliminary process information related with process features.Then, after adjusting and modifying the inferential preliminary process plan information, the display technique of the 3D process plan information based on MBD is studied. In the CATIA environment, the interface and its functions of editing the process MBD information is introduced.The concepts and the establishing methods of establishing lightweight model and operation model are introduced. In the non-CATIA environment, a system which can acquire and display the 3D process information and operation models are proposed. The form of lightweight model to display the operation models and the form of structure tree to display MBD process information are presented.Finally, based on the above principles and processes, a concrete product part is used to elaborate the overall plan, validating its effectiveness and feasibility.
