The image acquisition and processing system based on PC has been unable to meet the portable need of outdoor operation. This paper designs a kind of image acquisition and transmission system based on ARM microprocessor and embedded Linux operating system. System designs general driver of the USB camera equipment according to the UVC protocol. It owns features of free drive, and users can replay camera based on their own needs without updating device driver. This system uses the video programming interface which is provided by Linux kernel called V4L2 to control the USB camera equipment to capture image, and then transmits data to the PC through the network by mjpg_streamer, and users can receive data and realize real-time monitoring by the client in the PC terminal.System test results show that the system runs stably. The video image's resolution is 640×480 and the transmission rate is 2.3Mbps, even the highest rate can reach 2.7Mbps. It achieves the expected goal.
