It's difficult to achieve very complex control functions because of limited hardware resources of the microcontroller itself, so the effect of traditional single-chip image acquisition system is not well. For example, the system may be running in instability state, with simply application and new function is difficult to expand, etc. So a new high-performance processor hardware platform and Linux operating system are used to build an embedded image acquisition and compression system to solve the shortcomings of traditional system.By studying, a FEILIN OK6410development board with Samsung S3C6410microprocessor is selected which is based on ARMI1core to be the image acquisition and compression system's hardware platform; and ZR36060compression chip producing by ZORAN Company is used to be the core hardware; at the same time, the reference steps about image compression have been analyzed. Then open-source operating system-Linux is selected to be soft platform in the system. In the dissertation, some modules'interface schematics are pointed such as S3C6410development board, ZR36060(image compression chip), NAND FLASH, DDR memory, USB, LCD liquid crystal screen, etc. Then the concept and classification of embedded system are introduced, especially Linux system; the next is translated the Boot loader, Linux kernel, and the YAFFS2root file system to the development platform; at the same time the reference code about image acquisition application program based on V4L2framework have been analyzed. Finally, the system has been tested. And the shortcoming and functions expanding expectation in the system are summarized.In the dissertation, the design of embedded image acquisition and compression system has lots of advantages. For example, it has small size, low cost, low power consumption, high flexibility, easy to develop, easy to expand, etc. So it has much more application in future.
