Image acquisition technology was used widely in many fields, such as industrial inspection, traffic, medical, military and scientific research. Most of the traditional image acquisition system is be comprised of camera, image acquisition card and PC, and by building private networks for image acquisition and transmission. Remote PC-based image acquisition system can not meet the application requirements in some areas, because of its shortcomings of complex structure, low stability and reliability, expensive cost, cumbersome operation etc. With the rapid development of embedded system technology and image acquisition technology, especially the wide application of ARM processor and Linux in the embedded system,so it's possible that the image acquisition system, small volume, low power consumption, low cost, data pretreatment function and the image acquisition, processing, I/O control and communication integrated in one. Based on this background, this paper presents the design scheme of image acquisition and transmission system based on ARM-Linux.Firstly, this paper gives us a brief introduction and analysis about the present situation of the image acquisition system, and describes that the embedded image acquisition system has incomparable advantages. Then, the design of the system is put forward based on embedded processors, CMOS digital image sensor and Ethernet networks. And then, according to the determinated scheme, this paper gives us a detailed implementation. The first stage:design of the system hardware. Including interface circuit of SDRAM, NOR Flash, NAND Flash, OV9560 image sensor, SD card, DM900 and other interface circuit and Printed circuit boards. The second stage:Construction of an embedded software platform. It includes the establishment of cross-compiler environjnent, Bootloader transplantation, embeded linux kernel transplantation, yaffs file system transplantation,as well as the establishment of root file system. The third stage:image sensor driver and external trigger driver were wrote, and corresponding application procedures for testing; Image generated program was designed to collect the image data used to generate images. The fourth stage: the embedded WEB server transplantation, design of web template, design of CGI program for user authentication, parameter setting and image acquisition and display. Finally, the test result of the system is given.
