Nowadays, the image collection system has been widely used in many fields such as industrial manufacture, military and medicine. The system is composed with CCD camera, collection card and computer, however, there are always some deficits combined with the system, for example, the complex structure, high cost and large volume etc. In recent years, a new image collection system—a system based on embedded function has received wide attention and research in pace with the development of the sensing, semi-conductor technology, as well as the embedded system. The embedded image collection system has the feature of simple structure, low cost and small volume, which makes it can achieve great development in the future. This thesis researched and developed a new embedded image collection system based on the theory of the combination of embedded system and the image collection, which mainly has three parts—the USB camera, embedded system developing board and the host. It achieves the aim of monitoring and collecting the video image. The following tasks have been accomplished: the source code of the driving procedures of the USB camera has been modified and optimized based on the basics of the Linux kernel and driver architecture structure, which solved the problem of the un-recognition of the camera sensor. Meanwhile, the TCP/IP protocol has been applied to realize the server and the client based on the analysis of the applying occasion of all kinds of the internet protocol, which solved the problem of the transmission of the video image data network. The initiation of this thesis is: the un-recognition of the sensor chip has been conquered by large amount experiment on different platforms; the frame speed can be changed at any time according to the image quality by changing the parameters in the driving procedure.
