The acquisition and processing of image information is that the collectedimages are processed using computer in order to achieve the purpose of observation,measurement, recognition, etc. Nowdays with the rapid development of computertechnology, the image acquisition and processing have been widely used in variousfields of our daily life, such as production, scientific research, health care,management, security and so on.This paper puts forward the image acquisition and processing system based onARM with the main purpose for handheld and portable image processingapplications. The FL2440development board based on Sansung S3C2440A chip isadopted as the hardware development platform for the entire system whichequipped with the SMIC micro zc301p chip USB camera for image data acquisitiondevice, the current version of Linux-2.6.32.2operating system which is relativelyhigh and stable performance is transplanted, and the USB camera driver based onVideo4Linux standard is transplanted for the USB image acquisition device. Finally,the graphical user interface based on Qt/Embedded is programmed which is joinedthe image acquisition and processing functions and realized the real-time displayand preserved of video images on the development board, the geometrictransformations of image magnification, reducing, suitable for screen and rotating,the digital image processing functions of image gray-scale processing, medianfiltering processing, binarization processing and edge extraction.In this paper, the general platform of image acquisition and processing systembased on ARM is set up, and the basic image acquisition and processing software isprogrammed, which is laid the foundation for the development of hand-held imageacquisition and processing product based on ARM in the future.
