With the rapid development of technology and the improvement of people's living standard in recent years, the vehicle video monitoring system has become more popular because of its convenience to people's life. As wireless technology has been developed, wireless vehicle video monitoring systems have also been upgraded by employing the technology. At the same time, embedded hardware brings the characteristics of high performance and integration for the video monitoring systems.A new design of four–channel video monitoring has been proposed in this paper. The design first realizes the goal of four channel video monitoring. Second, through the wireless environment, the three channel wireless video system is realized together with one channel wired Universal Serial Bus(USB) video monitoring. The new system is constructed from tiny4412 development board as the core hardware platform with a friendly user interface.During the period of the system development, the demanding analysis and function design for the system needs to be done in the first stage. Then, the hardware and software for the system should be constructed. According to configurations of the embedded development platform, two types of wired camera and wireless network camera have been chosen. Besides, the software development environment serves to develop the software for the system, then the Linux system kernel needs be cut, and embedded Linux operating system also should be transplanted on Advanced RISC Machines(ARM) platform. The vehicle multi-channel video monitoring system includes a camera acquisition terminal, a control terminal and a display terminal. The information of the video acquisition part could be transmitted in two mediums. The one part of capture information would be transmitted through the USB to the control terminal and be converted from the YUV format to Red Green Blue(RGB) format, and the other part would be transmitted to control terminal by using wireless technology and then decoded to display on the terminal. In the display terminal, he video player was designed with the tool of Qt, and the displaying multi-channel video in real-time has also been realized. The specific design process of the system involves four steps. To begin with, the touch screen is transplanted in order to facilitate the customer to manually operate the display terminal. Next, a wireless network card is also chosen, and its driver is designed at the same time. Because the wireless network environment is built, the monitoring information sampled by wireless camera in the car could be transmitted to the control terminal in real-time. Then, the ffmpeg database which would be used to processing the video data also is transplanted to the embedded system. Finally, in the processing of multi-channel video display, the multi-thread realizes the goal of displaying multi-channel video simultaneously. This paper analyses the vehicle multi-channel video monitoring system and clearly introduces the new system with some key technologies. The vehicle video monitoring system is expected to be widely employed and improved with the further development technology.
