Comparative Analysis On The Ideas And Practices Of Data Journalism At Home And Abroad

Data Journalism is the innovation of the news propagation mode under the new environment, it not only represents the global journalism's new practice and exploration in the era of big data, also represents a new areas and new direction of the development of the current journalism. Data Journalism is based on data as the core, and network technology as the basis, through data analysis to find the trend and significance behind the events, and visualization in the form of a visual way to present the new report. In recent years, as the representative of the western media, The New York Times and The Guardian have produced a large number of outstanding works in data journalism practices. Domestic media are also beginning to get involved in the field of data journalism, and have made certain achievements.Currently, both domestic and abroad data journalism practices are still at the exploratory stage, the related concepts and the concrete practices are still not mature and not perfect. Therefore, based on the comparison of the data journalism concepts and practices, combing the concepts of data journalism, clearing the dimensions and the similarities and differences of understanding of data journalism both at home and abroad have more important meaning and value. Based on the generalization of the development of data journalism, combining with representative works of media at home and abroad, understanding the present situation and the differences between home and abroad in the aspect of concrete practices, and then analyze the development dilemma and its restricting factors of data journalism, in order to guide the practice of domestic data journalism.Therefore, this article using the methods of literature research, case analysis and comparative research methods, comparing and analyzing the understanding of data journalism at home and abroad, and choosing the typical works of data journalism at home and abroad. The study found that the understanding of data journalism at home and abroad have similarities, and the understanding of the concepts of data journalism at home is strongly influenced by abroad. In addition, the domestic scholars in combination with the practice of the domestic media and their own understanding, and have many different opinions on the concept of data journalism. Because of the lack of unified conclusion about the concept of data journalism, makes the understanding of the concept of data journalism at home and abroad in the state of "chaos". In the practice of data journalism, due to the influence of the environment of society, politics, medium and technologies, the practice of foreign medium is relatively mature, and the practice of the domestic media has bigger gap compared with abroad, mainly existed in topic selection, data sources and the use of data, visualization and interaction with the audience. In the end, basis on the comparison and analysis, this paper thinks over future development of the data journalism at home, and analyzing the restraining factors of the development of data journalism from aspects of country, the media, market and so on. Combining the analysis of constraints, this paper also puts forward relevant suggestions from different aspects, looking forward to have certain guidance and reference significance.
