Big Data is a term for describing mass information and statistics. Today, Big Data is a novel and significant concept which is similar to the popularity of Internet ten years ago. Governments and enterprises as well as academia now concentrate much more on it. The appearance of Big Data Technology is the result of the desire that humans yearn to measure, record and analyze the world. Nowadays, the research on the influence of Big Data Technology on various industries acquires extremely popularity and attention as much as the study on the Internet Technology ten years ago. From the perspective of journalism practice, Big Data Technology is a kind of practical technology that merges a series of data processing methods together, such as, collection, searching, querying, analysis, visualization, etc. The academia and the industrial circles focus more attention on the Data Journalism which is the new-style report of Big Data Technology.On the basis of reviewing the development of Big Data Technology, this thesis adopts qualitative research method and typical case analysis method in order to reveal the positive effects that the Big Data Technology has on the journalism practices, such as, interviewing, news writing and news editing. As an instrument, Big Data technology promotes the development of journalism and media convergence. In addition, author takes Peninsula Morning Post as example and investigates it to obtain the situation of Big Data Technology application. Meanwhile this thesis reflects the negative effects of Big Data Technology on journalism, and especially disserts the ethical issues that Big Data Technology brings. Finally, facing the problems that how to develop journalism in the era of Big Data, this thesis provides relevant development strategies, from the respects of journalists and media organizations as well as schools of journalism.
