Recent years, the world wide communication of movie and TV drama series has being in a prosperous period. Many scholars and experts start to pay much attention to the role of movie and TV drama series in the intercultural Communication area due to its importance in country image building. The government issued many policies and regulations aim to make the cultural industry more competitive.Joseph Nye, who is the first scholar propounding the concept of soft power. Soft power means the union degree of a country, the acceptance of a culture and a country whether takes part in some international organization. The acceptance of a culture in the world directly affects the soft power of the country. Many countries have a great regard for TV drama series because it is an art form which could positively show a culture and the image of a country.China made the first TV drama series in 1958. It is about 57 years since the first TV drama series has been played. During the period the production of TV drama series has been through a tough time. However, recent years the TV drama series in China has developed in a high speed pace. The output of Chinese TV drama series won the first place in the world. The qualities of Chinese TV drama series also make a great leap. Many Chinese TV drama series were export to other countries because of the exquisite scene, overwhelmed aesthetic appreciation and superb marketing. Four TV drama series “empresses in the palace”, “The Rankings of Lang Ya”, “Boss and Me”, “Doudou and her mother-in-law “are respectively export to US, Korea, Japan and Africa.Many excellent Chinese TV series has been produced in recent years. These TV drama series not only gained popularity in China but also in other countries. Lots of scholars and specialists think that the Chinese TV drama series could make more exportation in a few years. They give many valuable advises aim to improve the production and broaden the export ways in Chinese TV drama series.The first part of the thesis is introduction. The second part of the thesis is about the history of Chinese TV drama series. The third part of the thesis focuses on the case study of Chinese TV drama series. The fourth part analysis the similarities and differences of Chinese TV drama series and American TV drama series based on the theory of “high and low context culture” and the theory of “Cultural universality”. The last part is conclusion. The author of this thesis concludes the successful experiences of the American TV drama series. We sincerely Hope Chinese TV drama series may hit a big time in intercultural communication.
