Radar works in complex environments where it can be interfered by all kinds of clutter. Therefore, it is required to suppress clutter by some means to extract the desired target information. With the development of radar automatic detection and tracking systems, the constant false alarm rate(CFAR) detection technique has become an important research topic. The clutter map CFAR detection technique is widely used due to its advantages while improves the detection performance under different clutter backgrounds. The thesis research emphasis the clutter map CFAR detection technique aiming at the radar clutter suppression, and implement the algorithm on the DSP platform.Firstly, The statistic characteristics of ground and sea clutter are analyzed in the thesis. It is discussed how to make use of the Neyman-Pearson criterion to achieve maximum detection probability in the case of a certain false alarm rate. Then the necessity, the classification and the performance loss of the signal CFAR detection are elaborated. The research emphasis is put on the clutter map CFAR detection technique. If the clutter varies seriously in space domain and slowly in time domain, the point technique of the clutter map CFAR detection is analyzed. While if the clutter varies slowly in space domain and in time domain, the plane technique of the clutter map CFAR detection is used. Both point and plane technique are theoretically analyzed. Then, the influence of parameters, such as the SCR, forgetting factor and the number of scanning, on detection performance is covered. At the same time, the two detection methods are simulated and analyzed with their performance compared in Matlab. To solve the self-masking problem of slowly moving targets effectively, an ALCM CFAR detection technique is employed and its feasibility is confirmed by simulated target data. Finally, the bi-parametric clutter map CFAR detection technique is introduced for improving the target detection probability. This method can be applied to the clutter background with a widely changed range of SCR, which enables it to estimate sample mean and variance correctly, control the false alarm effectively. The program design of the clutter map CFAR detection algorithm is accomplished with ADSP-TS201 on a radar signal processing hardware platform. The computational complexity of this two algorithms are analyzed according to the establishing method, followed by the algorithm implementation process on the DSP platform. The data obtained by the acquisition system is analyzed in experiments. The results show that the proposed method can detect slow or flying target in tangential direction effectively and reach the expected results basically.
