Shaft parts can transmit the motion,torque or bending moment,as the important parts for supporting gear,bearing,and the like.The design of shaft parts is quite complicated in the mechanical design.Shaft parts are non-standard parts,whose shape or size changes according to design requirements,which takes up a lot of time and energy of designers,and results in low efficiency and high error rate especially in the three-dimensional modeling.This obviously can't adapt to the increasingly fierce market competition environment.In addition,with the development of the computer integrated manufacturing technology,people are not only content with the pursuit of drawing 3d model of shaft parts by consuming less time,but also want to attach information such as material and precision to the 3d model,so as to provide convenience for the subsequent process manufacturing.So how to build a shaft parts design system realizing fast drawing of shaft parts and comprehensive expression of process information is a significant issue.In this paper,feature modeling library of shaft parts under the CATIA platform has been accomplished based on feature modeling and parameterized modeling in CAD/CAM,which can realize modeling by calling shape features of shaft parts according to demand,and expression of accuracy features and material features.The main researches were as follows:1.Selected VB6.0 and Access database as development tools,and the 3d modeling software CATIA as development platform,analyzed functional requirements and design philosophies of feature modeling library of shaft parts.2.Planned the structure of feature modeling library of shaft parts,divided the features of shaft parts,determined the operation scheme of feature modeling library.3.Generated shape features of shaft parts by studying the CATIA secondary development technology and parameterized modeling.Realized the display,reasoning and output of data during the design of shaft parts through building database system of feature modeling library by investigating Access database and its accessing technology.4.Developed data query module,engineering drawing module,and help module of feature modeling library,completed the interfaces design and cohesion and transformation between different dialog boxes.5.Verified the feasibility and validity of feature modeling library by generating a non-standard stepped shaft and a gear shaft.
