The space concept is one of the key competencies stressed in primary mathematic education as well as an essential component of students' comprehensive qualities.With the continuous advance of curriculum reform,the connotation of the space concept is constantly enriched,and teachers pay more attention to the cultivation of students' space concept.The article mainly analyzes the space concept,and puts forward the effective strategies to cultivate the space concept of primary school students on the basis of investigating the present development status of the primary school students' space concept.According to the expression of the space concept in the 2011 edition of Mathematics Curriculum Standards,the space concept is divided into four dimensions:the conversion of geometric figures and actual objects;the relationship between the orientation of objects and objects;the movement and change of graphs;drawing a graphic according to the description of the language.And the paper analyzes Liu Xiaomei's three levels of space concept development,and synthesizes Piaget's research on spatial representation,as well as summarizes the psychological characteristics of the formation of space concept of primary school students.Primary school students tend to rely on visual imagination and experience to think or describe the nature and concept;more likely to capture the intuitive elements of the graph.Their recognition of the pattern depends more on the common form and the formation of space concept is a spiraling process.In order to understand the status quo of the development of primary school students' space concept,The paper surveys 240 students in two schools in Hangzhou and the suburbs through the questionnaire of space concept of primary school students.The analysis shows that students ' space concept mainly presents the following characteristics: the ability of imagining the orientation of object and the positional relationship between objects is relatively strong;the ability of measuring unit of quantity,the ability of graphics decomposition and the ability of conversion between graphics and text and the capacity of conversion between graphics are all relativelyweak.The main reasons are found through the targeted interview: the lack of understanding of the basic methods of pattern formation in learning practice;the overmuch focus on the knowledge explaining,the lack of perception experience and the a mass of static appearance or processing of geometric figure.On the basis of the investigation and analysis,the main conclusions of cultivating strategy are as follows: first,teachers need to pay attention to the excavation and utilization of space concept factor of the teaching material when cultivating space concept.Second,teachers should emphasis on the analysis of students' learning situation and seek a breakthrough in the weak links.Third,teachers should attach importance to creating a platform of space concept development with the help of situation creation.Fourth,teachers have to concern about the reciprocal transformation between geometric figure and material object in teaching practice.Fifth,teachers try to promote the development of thinking through visual perception.Sixth,teachers can reduce students ' thinking obstacles by assignment design.In addition,teachers should also pay attention to cooper action between family and school as well as create the atmosphere for students' development of space concept to build a platform of providing opportunities for the development of space concpet.
