A Translation Practice Report On Fundamentals Of Applied Reservoir Engineering:Appraisal,Economics And Optimization (Chapters Eight-Eleven)

Based on reservoir physics and seepage flow mechanics of oil and gas,reservoir engineering is a comprehensive petroleum technology discipline.Practitioners in oil filed and production realm should have a good command of this subject.Being a multiple-subject,reservoir engineering is based on seepage mechanics and petrophysics.It takes oil and gas reservoir or petroleum combination as main study object to gain high efficient hydrocarbon resource by using computer science and economic as researching tools.With rapid development in oil field discovery,various methods have been updated and widely applied.The impletion of advanced equipment and device in the fielding planning and optimization process,along with the monitoring after production,has attributed to enormous progress in reservoir engineering compared to three to four decades ago.Thus,translating textbooks of this subject is of practical significance that it will provide beneficial reference to petroleum majors and industry professionals with cutting-edge technology.This dissertation consists of two parts.The first part is the translation project selected from Chapter 8 to Chapter 11 from Fundamentals of Applied Reservoir Engineering:Appraisal,Economics and Optimization,which is written by R.Wheaton.Chapter 8 introduces the field appraisal and development planning,which will normally make up a large portion of an engineer’s activities.Chapter 9 gives a brief introduction to unconventional resources,including shale gas,coal-seam gas,etc.Those resources will be a major part of the oil industry in the future.Chapter 10 and Chapter 11 are about producing filed management and uncertainty and the right to claim reserves.These two chapters are branches of petroleum economic,since all decisions will ultimately depend on economic and a reservoir engineer should have basic comprehension of this subject.The second part is the translation report,which is composed of 5 chapters.The first chapter introduces the background and significance of the translation project.The second chapter focuses on the introduction to the content of the source text and analysis of its characteristics.The third chapter is the description of pre-translation,in-translation and post-translation process.The fourth chapter is the key part of the report.In this chapter,the translator introduced the theoretical base and translation methods applied in the translating process,such as sequencing,division and restructuring.At the same time,the translation of technical terms,passive voice,coherence and cohesion are also mentioned in this chapter.In the fifth chapter,the translator has summarized problems and lessons from this translation practice.The translator has not only acquired deeper understand in field planning and economic,but also combine theories with practical ability together to provide valuable experience and guidance for future translation work.
