A Report On C-E Translation Of Guide-weight Method For Mechanical Structure Optimization Design-Theory,Method,Program And Engineering Application(Excerpts)

During the internship from July 2022 to December 2022,the translator participated in a project to translate Guide-weight Method for Mechanical Structure Optimization Design--Theory,Method,Program and Engineering Application from Chinese to English.This report reviews the translator’s translation practice,using Catford’s Translation Shift Theory to analyze problems encountered in practice and revise them and propose how translators should respond when encountering areas they are unfamiliar with.Based on the internship experience in the enterprise and personal learning,the translator chooses the two chapters of "Sensitivity Analysis of Structure Optimization" and "Application and Program of Guide-weight Method in Antenna Structure Optimization Design" as the research object.The text analyzes the sensitivity of mechanical structure optimization and introduces the application of weight-guide method in antenna structure.Catford’s Translation Shift Theory focuses on transmission of semantics,while translation materials belong to scientific texts with clear logic and rigorous wording.Therefore,they both have the same purpose,which makes Catford’s Translation Shift Theory suitable to guide the translation practice.This translation practice report is divided into five parts.The first part is an introduction to the translation practice project,including the project background,purpose,significance and specific structure.The second part is the translation process,which expounds the three processes: before,during and after translation.The third part is a theoretical introduction,which describes Catford’s Translation Shift Theory and its application in scientific and technological texts.The fourth part is a case study,which explores the application of various shift methods in practical scientific translation practice under the theory.The fifth part is the conclusion,which summarizes the translation practice,reflects on the personal mistakes in the process and puts forward suggestions.Through this translation practice,the translator discovers: There are a large number of professional words and explanatory charts in this text,which requires a high level of professionalism and accuracy of translation and is in line with the characteristics of scientific and technological text translation;Category shift and level shift in Catford’s Translation Shift Theory may be applied to this translation practice,and it is practical and suitable to guide the translation activities of this text.
